Homemade Fruit Snacks

1:37 PM | Published by Unknown

Alright..this is one of the posts that should of been up yesterday so I apologize! But these are so worth the wait. HOMEMADE FRUIT SNACKS! And I have to say that this one is for my big sis Nicole and my ever so cute nephew Ryker.

If you ever looked at the ingredients on your child's fruit snacks you would probably die or be confused. They are loaded with sugars, dyes, wax, and artificial flavoring. They are horrible for their teeth and basically have no nutritional benefit. Basically chewy candy....gross!

However, what would you think if I told you that you could make your own fruit snacks with 3 ingredients in 15 minutes! You are probably jumping up in down with joy right?! Ok..... probably not, but it was worth a shot haha.

1. For this recipe you will need a juicer or 100% fruit juice. Investing in a juicer is probably the best investment I could have ever made 3 years ago. It totally changes your "eating healthy game." I have the Juiceman Juicer that I bought at Target for only $80!

2. You need 2 cups of 100% juice. My fruit snacks today are going to be orange flavored but you can make them with any type of fruit and even mix-and-match. I have kiwi's I will be doing this with later on in the week! It took 4 oranges to get more than 2 cups of juice.

3. Pour 1 cup of the fruit juice in a small pot and start warming it on medium-low.

  • Next you need to add the Gelatin. If you bought packets like I did you will need 3 of them or 2 tbsp.
  • Keep stirring on medium-low until the Gelatin is completely dissolved.
  • Then add 4 tbsp. of honey while still stirring.
  • When everything is nicely mixed in then add the last cup of fruit juice.

Here is a close up on my raw honey...made locally in Utah! Seriously best honey ever. Like I said in my Healthy Energy Balls recipe, raw honey is so much better than the regular store bought honey with added preservatives and ingredients in it.

4. Pour into a non-stick baking pan or silicone mold and refrigerate for 4 hours. When it is completely chilled cut the mold into small bite-size squares!

Prep time: 15 minutes
Chill time: 4 hours

4 oranges or 2 cups of 100% fruit juice
2 tbsp. of Gelatin
4 tbsp. raw honey

Just for some kicks and giggles, here is what is in your average fruit snack...and that is only for ONE little packet.
